Our approach

We are experts in qualitative and quantitative methods and apply rigorous and robust research methodologies to greater understand complex social policy issues. We combine our technical expertise with an indepth understanding of the policy areas we work in to ensure the highest quality results.

Tailored design

We set the benchmark for high quality, ethically conducted social research by individually tailoring our approach to best meet the needs of every piece of research we carry out.

Breadth and depth of expertise

We are leaders in quantitative surveys using random probability sampling. Our specialist researchers pioneer new and innovative approaches to survey design and data collection methods. NatCen's qualitative researchers conduct high quality studies that help us understand how social policies work, and the social contexts within which they operate. We also conduct secondary analysis of existing sets of data collected by us or other organisations.

Practical application

Our research has direct, practical application in terms of understanding social behaviour and informing policy. It is used by policy makers and political representatives, the media, academics and social researchers.
