Summary

The 2004 Health Survey for England was the second survey in the series to focus on the health of minority ethnic groups. The findings from this survey build on information that was obtained in the 1999 survey.

As in previous years, core modules of questions were asked of all participants, including topics such as fruit and vegetable consumption, alcohol consumption and smoking. For adults, additional questions were asked about cardiovasular disease and diabetes. For children, questions on respiratory health were included.

Only participants from minority ethnic groups were eligible for a nurse visit, where key measurements such as blood pressure and waist and hip circumference were recorded. Of those participants who gave consent, a blood sample and urine sample was also obtained by the nurse.
